A homestead tax exemption, exempts a percentage of your home’s assessed value or a specific dollar amount from being taxed. This exemption only applies to your primary residence; it cannot be applied to second homes, rental or investment properties. By filing homestead you keep your taxes as low as possible based on your tax qualifications. Failing to file by March 31 will result in an increase in your taxes which could cost you hundreds, maybe thousands, of dollars each year.
